There’s a pretty special day coming up for Fido. Spoil Your Dog Day is August 10th! While our canine buddies want to–and should–be spoiled every day, there’s no reason you can’t get some extra tail wags on this ‘pawspicious’ occasion. As your Marion, IA area veterinarian, I offer some advice on how to celebrate this special day below.
Snacks
No doggie holiday is complete without a yummy snack! Store-bought treats are fine, but you can also give Fido some plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken. Be sure to remove the skin, bones, and fat first.
Toys
Pick up a new plaything for your four-legged pal, and spend some time having fun with him. There are few better ways to spend a summer afternoon than by having some fun with your furry friend!
Swimming
Does your pup like the water? If so, take Fido to a pet-friendly pool or beach. Just keep a close eye on your canine companion. Never leave your dog unattended near water, even for a minute.
Training
Did you know that many dogs like learning new things? Spend some time with Fido, and work on his petucation. If he hasn’t mastered basic doggy commands yet, focus on that. Otherwise, you can teach your furry pal some cute tricks.
Explore
Dogs love going to new places, and sniffing at strange grass and brush. Take Fido on a one-tank trip to a pretty spot, and gather memories and photos of your pooch living his best life.
New Digs
Do you have a yard for your furry buddy to chase squirrels around in? If so, consider giving it a pupgrade. Get Fido a doghouse, or perhaps a kiddie pool. If your pup likes to dig, he may appreciate a sandbox to put some buried treasure in.
Pupscription Box
If you really want to go all-out, consider signing Fido up for his own doggy prescription box. Every month, he’ll get his own box of goodies in the mail. This may be as much fun for you as it is for him!
Belly Rubs
Dogs have a special way of reminding us to enjoy the simple things in life. Fido really just wants to hang out with his favorite humans. Spend some quality time with your pooch!
