September is Healthy, Happy Cat Month! Of course, our feline friends deserve to be happy and healthy all year. However, this is a great chance to shine some light on Fluffy’s care needs, and offer some tips on keeping your cat content and purring. As your local Cedar Rapids, IA vet, I offer some helpful tips on keeping your kitty happy and healthy in this article.
Kitties are definitely very sleepy, but even the drowsiest cat can’t spend all her time snoozing. Make sure your feline pal has lots of toys, and play with her regularly. A good window view is also beneficial.
It’s probably safe to say that Fluffy would rather lounge about in her favorite sunbeam than come visit us. Regardless of your pet’s opinion on the matter, she will both look and feel better with regular veterinary care. Follow your vet’s recommended appointment schedule. If you notice any signs of illness, such as vomiting, hiding, or uncharacteristic behavior, call your vet right away.
Keeping Kitty In
Cats are very curious, and love to investigate and explore. Keep your furry little explorer indoors, however. If you let your kitty go outside, she’ll face some very serious dangers, such as cars, predators, and weather, to name a few. Fluffy will appreciate a taste of nature, however, so set out some pet-safe plants for her to nibble on.
Proper nutrition is a crucial part of any good cat care routine. Offer Fluffy a high-quality brand of pet food, but don’t overindulge her with fatty treats. Even giving your feline buddy ten extra calories a day can cause her to pack on pounds rapidly. Follow your vet’s nutritional advice.
Make sure to keep up with Fluffy’s parasite control products. Fleas and ticks can not only make your pet miserably itchy, but they can also transmit dangerous diseases. They can also carry other parasites. There are many products to choose from, so ask your vet for specific recommendations.
Fluffy will be happiest if she feels loved. Kitties can get extremely attached to their humans! Spend time with your furry pal every day, and offer lots of attention and cuddles to keep that motor going.
